The Cartierville Y centre is already launching its pre-opening membership campaign.

Montreal, February 2, 2010 - The Cartierville Y centre, which will open its doors on April 17, is already launching its pre-opening membership campaign. This brand new fitness and community centre long-awaited by the borough’s residents, will surely contribute to improving their quality of life, meet their needs in terms of facilities, and will improve the current service offer with its varied programming for all ages.

To the great joy of its users, this new centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that is on the cutting edge of technology and current practices. The quality of the facilities is undeniable particularly the aquatic facility, the strength and conditioning room, the studios, and the double-gym. Thanks to a unique partnership between The YMCAs of Québec and the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, all neighbourhood residents will be able to have free access to certain equipment and activities including daily periods of open swim and gym access. Furthermore, those interested can sign up for a membership at the YMCA and benefit from all of the fitness facilities and programming offered at the Y.

Community organizations in the area will also be able to benefit from the resources at the new Cartierville Y centre. Aside from having access to a multi-purpose room, certain fitness facilities will also be at their disposal. In fact, many activities will be developed and offered in collaboration with local organizations, which will serve to complement their current offer.

Through the various membership types and à la carte classes offered by the Y, a multitude of programs will now be accessible to the local population. Furthermore, the programming will be of interest to young families since parents have the option to participate in activities while their children take advantage of other stimulating programming designed specifically for them, or, they can all participate in family activities together.

The Cartierville Y centre will be managed by Mrs. Néhal Nassif, a woman of heart and mind who has been active in the community and has over 25 years of experience managing community centres and developing fitness programs. For many years now, Mrs. Nassif has been working with The YMCAs of Québec sharing her know-how and experience. She is very excited about the opening of this new centre, and is inviting the entire population of Cartierville and the surrounding areas to come take part in the many activities being offered. “This centre is for the entire community. This project was created to meet a very real and long-awaited need in the borough, and we are proud to finally see the project become a reality. With the benefit of our expertise and its modern facilities, the Cartierville Y centre will quickly become a pillar in the community. Our priority is the satisfaction of our clientele. Furthermore, priority will be given to members of the local community for the external recruitment of new employees,” she stated.

An architecture that is truly original and environmentally-friendly!

The architecture of the Cartierville Y centre was created by well-known architect Renée Daoust. It is a truly beautiful, well-lit, safe, spacious, and welcoming facility. Its state-of-the-art design will surely contribute to the revitalization of the borough as well as to the quality of life of its residents. The design incorporates many components that are eco-friendly such as: geothermal energy, heat recovery systems, a window design that minimizes the use of electric lighting, a white roof and over a hundred trees planted that will help counter the effect of heat islands.

The Cartierville Y centre: Much more than a fitness centre!

Originally proposed by the CASC citizen group, the Cartierville Y centre is the result of  partnership between The YMCAs of Québec, the Ministère de l’éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec, the City of  Montreal, and the borough of Ahunstic-Cartierville. Member of the Conseil local des intervenants communautaires de Bordeaux-Cartierville, the centre is already collaborating on many projects with the Éco-quartier of Cartierville, the Maison des jeunes de Bordeaux-Cartierville, as well as the Ahuntsic-Cartierville CDEC.
