International Programs of The YMCAs of Québec have two main goals: to inform and educate by encouraging local participation of people in international issues; and to develop and strengthen partnership relationships between local and overseas YMCAs.
To facilitate this, each of centres of The YMCAs of Québec has been twinned with an overseas YMCA partner.
To achieve these goals, the International Programs of The YMCAs of Québec engage in activities that inform and involve people about development issues, and about local and global initiatives that are based on community development and social justice principles.
Founded in Montreal in 1851, the YMCA has been involved in international development since 1889. The YMCAs of Québec is part of a worldwide movement of YMCAs present in over 120 countries. There are over 14,000 local YMCAs with more than 45 million members world-wide. The World Alliance of YMCAs, founded in 1855, is one of the oldest youth movements in the world. The World Alliance has had consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 1947.
