The ACJ/YMCA of Honduras has a strong focus on youth leadership development and integration. "Our mission is to increase the active involvement of young men and women in promoting the recognition of the youth movement in Honduras and on implementing strategies and political action for the development of youth that will improve the quality of their life." ACJ*/YMCA of Honduras
The YMCAs of Québec support the ACJ/YMCA’s Citizenship Education for Youth project which trains, organizes and empowers youth as active citizens and involves young people throughout Honduras in "Grupos Ciudadania" or citizen groups which play a vital role in the civic rights of youth. The ACJ/YMCA and its youth pushed for the implementation of the Ley de Marco de Juverntud (the youth protection law).
Through the ACJ/YMCA’s Program of Citizenship Education for Youth:
- Community youth leaders were identified and discussions were held on youth issues and participation.
- A citizenship educational curriculum was adapted for youth. 25-day training on citizenship education was given to 150 youth.
- 10 youth volunteer groups of 15 young men and women were formed in communities served by the ACJ/YMCA.
- Debates were held on issues affecting youth and citizenship.
- Municipal agreements: Proposals for public policies related to youth development resulted in 5 municipal agreements, of which the ACJ/YMCA proposed 4.
- Youth produced 48 radio broadcasts on themes of interest and concern for youth in Honduras.
