Located on the premises of École Saint-Louis, Café 3D provides youths with recreational activities as an alternative to the school corridors or the street.

École Saint-Louis is a secondary school that specializes in drama. Its student body numbers about 350, from secondary I to secondary V. Café 3D has become a hub of activity in the school, the focus of various projects and social, community, civic, cultural, and sports activities.

Café 3D addresses two major problems: loitering and a lack of structured activities for students outside class hours. The program is also intended to combat different aspects of exclusion experienced by young people, including dropping out, violence, and peer pressure. It seeks to boost students’ sense of belonging, which has a clear impact on course attendance and schoolwork, as well as the way they feel about school.

Young people come to Café 3D in the morning before classes start, at noon, and after school. They can engage in different activities, such as pool, table soccer, video games, board games, etc. Café 3D also features theme events, such as Valentine’s Day and Halloween, end-of-school celebrations, and even excursions (e.g., to a sugar shack in conjunction with the Du Parc Y centre youth group). Young people are encouraged to build community contacts, for example, such as organizing a soccer game with the neighbourhood police station.

Café 3D is managed by a committee of youth who make all decisions affecting the facility, activities, and projects. Student participation is designed to help develop civic responsibility. The project is supervised by a youth worker.

This project is made possible through a partnership between the Du Parc Y centre and École Saint-Louis. Café 3D helps youths at the school improve their grades by encouraging them to become more independent in their personal, social and school life.
