Anger Management and Conflict Resolution
The Anger Management and Conflict Resolution program at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Y centre helps participants manage their anger more effectively, whether at home, at school, or with their peers. It also helps reduce the number of suspensions for misconduct.
The Anger Management and Conflict Resolution program was created to deal with a growing number of school suspensions due to violence and poor anger management by students in the classroom and at home. Suspensions result in loss of precious class time for the students. The Anger Management and Conflict Resolution program, designed for teens exhibiting aggressive and violent behaviour, teaches them to manage their anger and keep it under control when they are faced with stressful situations.
The program focuses on personal development; involves representation, development stages, conflict management, the cultural process and optimal learning; and empowers youth to recognize the choices available to them. Thanks to better self-awareness, adolescents are more easily able to work through the stages in their personal development.
The program can refer youth experiencing difficulty to available resources, and facilitates their transition to the appropriate therapies. The program is available to teens who come to the Youth Zone at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Y centre or attend classes at Willingdon School. This program can also be provided to other youth or adult groups.
