The West Island Y centre
Great aspirations for the community
The West Island Y centre has been part of the community for more than 50 years.
It serves a vast territory, from Dorval to Senneville, which includes broad economic
disparities and a diverse clientele.
Focus on the family
The centre offers a variety of services for families: pregnant women, preschoolers,
teens and seniors can all count on useful programs and a dynamic approach. The centre
is well known for its daycare centre and drop-in babysitting. Its Youth Zone and
summer day camp can also accommodate children with special needs.
At the West Island Y centre, community programs have been set up for those who are
struggling at school as well as for young offenders. The centre combines its expertise
with that of many community organizations to offer responses adapted to local realities.
As a member of the Table de concertation jeunesse, the centre works regularly
with community police stations, the local CSSS, neighbouring municipalities, the
Carrefour jeunesse-emploi and school boards. The West Island Y centre was involved
in setting up the Coopérative Jeunesse Services, the integration project with the
West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped.
Health first!
Like other Y centres, the West Island Y centre has fitness facilities for members
of all ages and fitness levels. It welcomes both seasoned athletes and beginners
to its ultramodern facility.
The West Island Y centre enjoys the outstanding support of more than 230 volunteers
and many donors. More than 7,500 people use its programs and services every year.
